Flood of 2012

Picture
Floodwaters crossed Buena Vista Road near the Benton-Polk counties border Jan. 19-20, 2012, , Soap Creek and the Luckiamute River backed up as the Willamette River peaked.

Erin Burns tells their story:

These pictures were taken Thursday.  I left the house around 6:45 a.m. with the baby to head to work & there was no water on the road.  Around 10 a.m. our neighbors called Rob, that the Luckiamute had made it across the road, both north & south of our hill.  With this news, I picked up the baby early & we headed home as we knew at this point it was only going to keep rising.
So around noon Thursday, these pictures were taken on Buena Vista Rd. as we made our way home.  The owner of Buena Vista Arbor Care was kind enough to come with us in our car, so we could get the baby as close to the boat as possible.  She's keeping our car for us until the water levels subside.  The one picture is Rob launching the boat at the end of our gravel driveway to come get us.  One picture is of us looking back at the car, as we leave it with the neighbor.  Eleanor was warm & covered but she stayed wide awake and happy through the whole thing- her very first boat ride.  Rob thought about just bringing the canoe, but the water was so deep & current was pretty strong already at noon on Thursday, that the motor boat was the best option.  We motored our way down Buena Vista Rd. back to our home & one of the last pictures is the baby & me on the road ready to head to the house.
Water levels started to subside slightly late Friday, but we still aren't able to leave by vehicle. Erin & Rob Burns
