On Friday, April 19, the Luckiamute Watershed Council hosted Let’s Pull Together for Ash Creek Oaks, a hands-on Earth Day event focused on restoring a beautiful grove of century-old oaks along South Fork Ash Creek. Nine dedicated volunteers joined Restoration Program Manager Aubrey Cloud and Executive Director Jordan Perez from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm, working together to remove invasive English ivy and bird cherry trees that were threatening the health of the native plant community.
Thanks to their hard work, we filled four dumpsters with invasive plant debris—freeing up many of the oaks and clearing the surrounding ground to allow native plants room to re-establish. This event builds on previous invasive species removal efforts at the site in 2022, 2023, and 2024, showing the amazing difference that sustained stewardship can make!
We’re also grateful to the City of Independence for helping to fund this restoration effort, and to Brandts Sanitary Service for generously providing and hauling away the dumpsters free of charge. Thank you to everyone who rolled up their sleeves and made a real difference for the future of this special place!
