May and June Update

Given the ongoing need to maintain social distancing , the Luckiamute Watershed Council has decided to cancel all of our May and June in-person events. The events that are canceled include the Spring Bird Walk at J2E Tree Farm, the Native Plant ID walk, the volunteer mulching event along Ash Creek, and the Planting for Pollinators Field Day at Illahe. Additionally, Polk County canceled the Adopt-A-Road clean-up we had scheduled for May 2, and McMenamins is closed for the foreseeable future - meaning we will be rescheduling our Friends and Family Night fundraiser that was scheduled for May 18. We are still evaluating options for conducting at least some of these events virtually, so stay tuned for more updates!

April Update

Our April 9 Board Meeting has been canceled. We will be conducting our next Board Meeting on May 14 via Zoom. Stay tuned for details on how you can join the meeting from home!

March 17, 2020: Letter to the Watershed Community: COVID-19 Update

Dear Watershed Community,

We wanted to touch base and let you know how the Luckiamute Watershed Council is responding to the COVID-19 pandemic. First of all, we hope you and your loved ones all are safe and healthy. We want you to know that we are fully committed to doing our part to limit the spread of COVID-19 within our community. To comply with the latest federal and CDC recommendations and recent state requirements, we are canceling our annual Watershed Recreation Fair that had been scheduled for April 18 at The Grove Coffeehouse. Out of an abundance of caution, we are also postponing the following events until further notice:
  • April 1: Stream Temperature Monitoring in the Luckiamute Watershed presentation at Pedee Women's Club
  • April 18: Weed Out! ivy information tabling at the Independence Farmers' Markets.
  • April 25: Earth Day Ivy Pull at Middle Fork Ash Creek

We will be conducting our monthly board meeting scheduled for April 9 remotely via internet only, so check our monthly meeting page soon for more information about how you can participate. We are keeping our scheduled May events on the calendar for now, and will keep you informed about any changes to those events in the coming weeks.

For now, it is uncertain when staff will be at the office so if you do plan on stopping by, please be sure to call or email us ahead of time to make sure someone will be there. Thanks for your consideration and we wish you all luck in getting through this difficult time.

All the best,

Kristen Larson
Executive Director
