Date: Saturday, September 3
Time: 8:00 am - 12:00 pm Place: Soap Creek Schoolhouse (37465 NW Soap Creek Rd, Corvallis) Cost: FREE (Bring your own lunch, water & binoculars) ![]() Join Salem Audubon member Mike Unger and local landowners for a stroll through oak savanna, meadows, wetlands and riparian forest located on private properties in the beautiful Soap Creek Valley, just north of Corvallis. Along the way we will be learning from Mike how to look and listen for the resident and migratory birds we discover along the way. We’ll also hear about the history and restoration efforts happening in this area. You are invited to bring a lawn chair and a bag lunch to enjoy a picnic by the historic Soap Creek schoolhouse afterwards.
A big thank you goes to Benton Soil & Water Conservation District for providing the funding that allows us to make this event free of charge. Thanks also to Faye Yoshihara, Kevin Kenaga, Janet Ohmann and Joe Crockett, who are graciously allowing us to tour their properties and have been so generous with their time, and to the Soap Creek Schoolhouse Foundation who are allowing us to use the facility free of charge. Sorry, registration for this event is now full!
Note that this event will involve walking across rough and uneven ground through oak savanna, meadows, wetlands and riparian forest, so make sure to dress for the weather, wear comfortable, closed-toe shoes, and don't forget your water bottle. You are also invited to bring a bag lunch and a lawn chair for an optional picnic lunch at the schoolhouse after the bird walk.
Feel free to bring your binoculars, bird guide and camera, if you'd like! We will also have extra binoculars and bird guides for use during the event. |
