Maxfield Creek "Headwaters to Confluence" Project Tour - October 14, 2023
On this lovely autumn day, a group of 21 community members and partners toured several project sites along Maxfield Creek, a tributary to the Luckiamute River. After a brief orientation at Kings Valley Community Center, two 12-person vans transported the group to restoration sites in the upper reaches of Maxfield Creek, where we've partnered with Bureau of Land Management, Starker Forests, Inc., Sustainable Growth, Inc. and Mason, Bruce & Girard (timber manager for Sustainable Growth). At these sites, LWC staff and partner representatives described the past, present and future work that is restoring high-quality habitat within Maxfield Creek and its surrounding riparian (streamside) areas. We then took a stroll along the lower part of Maxfield Creek and heard about the amazing work that landowners Cliff and Gay Hall have spearheaded over the past two decades to restore this section of the creek. It truly takes a community to restore a river, and the Maxfield Creek restoration effort is a perfect example of community-led conservation effort in action!
